(Photo by WordPress.Com) Jay Z will soon be joining the growing list of rappers with books out. He just recently signed a three book deal with Random House. The first book will be called Decoded. The book is a break down of some of Jay Z's lyrics. He has chosen a selection and will comment on them, give their meanings, etc. The other two book topics have not yet been confirmed. Possibilities include a memoir and a business book of sorts. This will be Jay's second attempt of breaking into the literary world. His first was back in 2003, when he was supposed to drop his autobiography. He changed his mind as the book was about to be published due to privacy issues. There has been no word on when Decoded will hit book shelves as of yet. I will keep an eye out though, for further information.
This sounds interesting to me. I typically love books like this by artists. I find them really appealing if done the right way. Also, on a constant basis, we make our own meanings to songs. It will be cool to have an artist share their meanings with the world. I think we take music for granted alot and don't really consider what the work means to our favorite artists. Hopefully, for all the die hard Hov fans out there, he actually goes through with this one. -MinM
What's good Family! I know I've been AWOL for MORE than a minute, but a Sista's been going through some things (including getting her degree YAY ME!) but I trust MinM's been holding it down in my absence. You all know that I respect my readers highly, and anytime you want to reach out to me, Tweet Me or hit me at BreezyLovesYaBaby@gmail.com . Aight, enough of that blahzay-blah.
Y'all know that I have said time & time again that I post when I'm compelled to, and ya know I had to come through to show love to the debut vid from my homie Donny Goines' sophomore album, The Breakfast Club. This is a rare joint from DG because it's actually about the laaaddiieeesss!! Haha. Cute, simple, vid, but I'm saying, D, holla at ya girl for a video cameo, Sheez!
I can mean-mug, Sun!
Are you missing your weekly Diddy fix on MTV? Well no worries my dears, great news! Diddy will return to MTV to make ANOTHER band on July 27, 2009. Check out the trailer below...
Alright, I refuse to support this one. Yes, I know the purpose is different, as he is creating an instrumental band to go on tour with him and allow him to play his music live from his upcoming album. However, I feel the process is the same and it's getting worn out. He will spend all season torturing these poor people cause he is the great leader of Bad Boy Records. Then, he will use them to his benefit as long as possible. Once he has used them up, he will kick them to the curb like all the rest. I am so tired of Diddy screwing with people's lives. I will always respect what he has done for the game. But, he needs to sit the hell down some where and realize that his days of being on top are over! He just ain't got it no more. Ever since Biggie's death, I have always felt that Bad Boy has been on a slow and steady decline. Idk, what are ya'll opinions on Diddy and his band madness? -MinM
"Hit Tha Button" Timbaland produced this track and he did a decent job. There is a heavy bass, some computer generated sounds, sirens, and an intense vibe going on here. The hook for this track does not exist. A long pause is what separates each verse. I do not feel that this was a good idea, the emptiness just makes the song bland. I think Petey Pablo should have not been lazy and wrote something for the hook. This hurts the song quality a lot. The verses were alright, nothing to get hype about or anything. Petey starts strong but as the song continues on, the lyrics get lack luster. Creativity, uniqueness, etc; were seriously lacking from this track. And since the song only has verses and no hook, the verses should have been fire, Petey's best work. Overall, I'd say pass on this one. Petey says he made this track at 4am, half sleep, and that's exactly what it sounds like too. -MinM
Rapper Willy Northpole, a Ludacris associate has had his video banned from BET. The video is called "#1 Side Chick" and features Bobby Valentino. The video's concept is basically the showing of Willy dating two different females. One, who really has his back and is down for him. And the other who seems to just be down for his money and the material things he can do for her.
This track was produced by Ryan Leslie and he did an excellent job. The production is very hot. It has a nice strong bass, a light instrument sound, and a major club / party type of feel. The hook is fairly decent, Keri Hilson's vocals were on point. I'm not crazy about Fabolous's vocals underlying hers though, just makes the hook sound noisy. The verses were solid but need some work. Fab's partial sing song delivery was horrible, the man can't carry a tune at all. He should have just rapped it straight through. Also, his lyrics were a little bland at times. He had some hot points but wasn't consistent: "At the end of the day, we just trying to find a way and I might be a come up. Baby you can hitch a ride but you gotta know how to do more than keep a thumb up. It's so incredible that it ain't edible but they know the cake's real. Yo I couldn't even say, ask these other silicon n--ggas how being fake feel." See the beginning of that is ok, but it's not until the end where he says something clever. All the verses follow that pattern. Overall though, I think this song is good. It has the potential to be one of those tracks that grows on you. So go ahead and listen, could be the next big Summer jam. -MinM
Quite a ways back, I did a piece about Reebok doing a campaign with the hipsters of our new hip-hop generation. The artists would remix classic old school hip-hop tracks and put together a piece for the new Reebok Classic Remix Collection. The songs would be available with any purchase of shoes in the collection. Kidz In The Hall kicked things off and now B.o.B is taking his turn. He remixed "Bonita Applebum" by A Tribe Called Quest. Check it out below......
The video is pretty simple here. It's basically just B.o.B chilling in various situations surrounded by stereos in different forms. He has stereos in his fridge and closet, people's heads are stereos, etc. And there are some clips of him doing his thing with his guitar as well. But that's really all there is to this. Guess it's kept simple because it's supposed to be about the shoes. I like this remix but I think Kidz In The Hall did better with their track. I believe Kid Sister is next on deck for the campaign. What do ya'll think about this so far? Are ya'll feeling the remixes or should the hip-hop classics just be left alone? Leave some comments, I like getting your feedback. -MinM
Guess Nelly's flop with his last album wasn't enough to make him give up hope. As he recently announced the workings of a new album at a show in Las Vegas. He performed two new songs at the show and revealed that he has been recording for the new project in the city as well. He says the new album sounds good and has lots of energy. Also, he hinted at a possible track with Janet Jackson. The album is slated to drop sometime in November. There has been no word on when the first single will be released or anything. And as of now, the project is untitled. Additionally, Nelly is also still working on his variety show, as was mentioned in a previous post. As further details become available or should anything leak, I'll be back.
Not really excited about this. I used to love Nelly and rode with him up until the last album. It was a major fail, seemed rushed and poorly put together. Had me thinking maybe his time had come and gone. But if he wants to give it another go, more power to him. Maybe he fixed the problem and can come back with some real bangers. Not gone hold my breath or anything, but stranger things have happened. I think he should let Murphy Lee have another go at things. I've heard a lot of his underground material and I'm loving it. Oh well, I wish Nelly the best, he's gone need it. -MinM
