A while ago, I brought you guys a news clip about the possibility of Rap City being canceled. It is a question no more, Rap City is officially over. The show had a 21 year run on BET and is now being replaced.

HAPPY GRAND HUSTLE DAY Folks! As you may have heard, self proclaimed king of the South T.I. has dubbed today as Grand Hustle Day. This due to the fact that his album Paper Trail, hits stores today and so does fellow Grand Hustle member, Big Kuntry King's debut album, My Turn To Eat. But they wont be just battling each other for positions on the charts, there are quite a few albums dropping today.
I'm sorry, y'all... normally I don't like to perpetuate hip-hop beefs but this shyt was a lil' high on the "WOOOOW" factor, I just had to blog it.
Mind you, I'm not the biggest Peedi fan in the world, but you say Jay crossed you and it's Camel Huntin' Season... okay, my dude, we feel you. But... you're kinda coming off like a scorned ex-lover rather than a former rapper-put-on-back-burner. Seriously, why waste all this energy making a diss track that really doesn't diss him? NOW, you're just being a Jay-Z stan, just like the 3.5 billion others that exist in this world. I say, let that anger go and focus on YOU as an artist instead of a Roc-A-Fella castaway. (At the very least, do some more hot joints with The Roots.) I'm just saying.
Check it out for yourselves and hit me about what you think.
I mean, if you gonna go up against Goliath, AT LEAST ATTEMPT to "Ether" the n*gga. Sheesh.
The production on this track was good. Statik Selektah did a nice job with the beat. Its got some light instruments in it with a light bass. Not exactly what I would expect for a song about being from the dope game, but it sounds hot. Joell Ortiz has some decent lyrics. Typical things that you would expect from a song about being in the game: "Ya'll just be looking tough, Im in the lab cooking up. Can't you tell that I came from the dope game? Product of my environment, thats why I got the fire kit. Can't you tell that I came from BK?" There are one or two exceptions, as far as clever lines in the song, but nothing to get excited about. This is my first time hearing a Joell Ortiz track and I am a little disappointed, cause he has a big buzz in the underground, but this track doesn't really prove to me why. Dont get me wrong, its worth a spin but I have a feeling he can come stronger than he did on this track. -MinM
The 20th annual International Arts Festival aka IAF, will be taking place this October in New Orleans, even though the city is still seeing some damage from Hurricane Gustaf. The festival is put together in order to promote world music and various community projects. Headlining the show are rapper The Game and r&b singer Lloyd. Additonal acts include: Asher Roth, Tamia, Morgan Heritage, Yellow Man, Collie Buddz, and Red Fox. The specific days for the festival are the 11th and 12th of October from noon to 9pm. The location will be Scout Island, City Park and tickets are on sale now via iafno.com or ticketmaster.com.
I think this sounds like an interesting event. I am not crazy about the lineup, though I wouldnt mind seeing Asher and Game do their thing. I love how no matter what happens, the people of New Orleans still keep it pushing with events and stuff. You gotta love that spirit in them. Hope the festival is a success and that all the artists actually show up. Around here when we do events like that, the headliners usually bail at the last minute, lol. -MinM
The beat here reminds me of "99 Problems," in that it contains both a rock and hip-hop heavy sound. There is alot of bass and a strong guitar present. However, that unfortunately is where the similarities end. Rick Ross's verse is ok, but easy to forget. In fact, I dont see what it contributes to the song at all. Jay Z's verses are on point but it is not the best that he ever spit. Overall, I feel like this song is just alright. I am really hoping that he plans on coming stronger than this for his upcoming album, The Blueprint 3, which I believe hits stores about December 16. Dont hold me to that though, Im not sure. Anyways, its worth a listen, until he drops us something better. So check it out. -MinM
So we got another new artist on the scene. Meet Thaahum (Id love a pronunciation lesson for that name, lol), hes an upcoming emcee from Arizona. He started rapping back in 1999 and has graced mix tapes with the likes of: Slim Thug, Paul Wall, etc. His sound is a mixture of hip-hop and soul music. And he is an artist of Keneteph Entertainment, an independent record label.
This track has a slow and mellow type of vibe going on. The verses are not incredible but are not bad. The delivery could use a little more excitement and could be a little smoother. The male vocals on the chorus, Im not crazy about, they sound a bit off key. However, Imani's vocals are beautiful. She has a very raspy and soft delivery going on. It fits the beat and nature of the song perfectly. Overall, Im not quite sure how I feel about this track. I think its one of those, that has to grow on you with a few listens. But we bring you these tracks, so that you can decide, so what do you think? Is the next big thing in rap, coming out of Arizona? -MinM
Alright, this has been a long time coming, so I am pretty psyched. I put alot of hard work into giving a quality review for this album, so that you as a listener and potential consumer could take something of value away from it. So what are you waiting for, go check it out! And if you dont have a copy of this album go cop it. This might be the last time you ever get to buy a new album, from The Game.
News is a little slow today, music is just giving me dead links, and since the other two were a bust, I didnt even bother checking videos yet. So since I needed to relieve some stress and I figured ya'll could use a good laugh, I decided to go for it. I tried to avoid this, cause I like Chance, I really do but they are asking for it. And yes this is relevant, cause Stallionaires Records is real. They are actually underground rappers, not good ones mind you but thats another time and place.
