Jay Z was a big political person this past election. Was a big pusher of registering to vote and endorsed Barack Obama like many other rappers. And for all his trouble, according to New York Daily News, he might receive a historical reward.
The buzz is that Jay's reward could be a spot in the inauguration performance department. Sources are saying that people are reaching out to Hov for some stage time on the big day. He is one of several big names that supposedly have been approached with this honor. Others include: Beyonce, Leona Lewis, etc. If this all comes to pass, Hov would be the first ever hip-hop artist to take part in an inauguration. In the past there have been r&b greats, but nothing close to a rapper. Obama's big day is officially, January 20, 2009.
This would be an amazing event for hip-hop. I don't even like Jay like that but if he is being approached, he would be a fool to pass this up. Being able to honor the first Black President on stage, is a huge career moment. Not to mention the significance of it all. I hope that this does go down, it would really be something to be able to take in on that big day. I mean, the day is huge anyways, as President Obama will be official and not just an elect anymore, but Jay's role would be an added bonus. Overall, I am just hoping that the day goes smoothly and we have a peacful and impactful inauguration. There are alot of haters out there and desperate people do stupid things. On another note, I am surprised that the President wouldn't go for a more politically conscious rapper. It seemingly would be more fitting. Oh well, I'm just happy to be able to witness this historic moment in my life time. -MinM
