We don't do r&b videos a lot but my other alternative for today was bringing you all another bad hip-hop video. And while those are important to do for obvious reasons, I felt it was time for a change of pace. I love this song and I think the video is just brilliant. So let's take a peek.........
This video shows Jazmine Sullivan performing in various areas of a gray colored town. As the video carries on, we follow three struggling couples and certain colors began to emerge. The first color is yellow and starts with Jazmine. The next color is blue and is represented with couple number one arguing in the streets. Then the color is orange and comes with the second couple arguing on a balcony. And the final color introduced is purple and comes with the last couple arguing on a bench. And there is also some splashes of black throughout the video as well. In addition to the couples and emerging colors, we have a group of animated violins surrounding Jazmine as she sings. Also, there is a tiger who follows Jaz throughout the video as well. By the end of the video, we find out the fate of the couples. The second couple with the orange, make up and the other two couples split. Also, there is an interesting scene where Jaz is performing and the tiger attacks the violins and they turn into a large purple heart that surrounds the singer. At the end of the video, Jazmine walks away and there is a close up of her eyes. In her eyes, you can see the white silhouette of a man.
This video was great in all forms to me. It had a clear and well done concept. The concept may have been typical but the execution was extremely creative. I loved the whole gray town with the splashes of colors emerging, the violins, and the tiger. It was all very entertaining and pleasing to look at and also really unique. Plus, the video related well to the song. The couples and tiger related the theme and lyrics. And the violins represented the key production element of the track. Overall, I think the song and video are hot and should not be slept on. And it's all very relateable too, we all know love and how crazy and scary it can be. Rappers need to take notes on videos like this, they might learn how to make something of quality. Much props to the director here too, they did their thing. -MinM
