So I'm sure that everyone has heard that hip-hop affiliates, The Roots have been called upon to be the new house band for Jimmy Fallon. His show will be "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," replacing Conan O' Brien as a host. Continue reading for more details.
For the premiere of the show, The Roots have gotten fellow rapper Ludacris to agree to make an appearance. Not only are the guys providing house music but they will be backing the musical guests as well. Also, they have a goal of getting artists on the show, who otherwise might not get a shot to be on a late night show. For the next year basically, The Roots must live the show as they are obligated by contract to stay put in New York. But don't get it twisted, the group had some doubts going into this whole thing. More or less they were worried about their credibility in the hip-hop industry, if they took the gig. In the end they decided that the opportunity was well worth the risk of a little flack from their hip-hop counter parts. And for die hard Roots fans, have no fear. Questlove promises a new album and tour date to follow, later on down the line. The show premieres Monday, March 2, 2009 on NBC.
I think this is a good opportunity for them. I'm glad that they decided to do it, to hell with what people think. The money is good and with the state of hip-hop these days, folks need to be branching out all they can. We need some good looks in the game right now and expanding to a crossover audience, definitely ranks up there. Ya'll know late night folks do not do hip-hop, lol. Unfortunately, I will not get to see them doing their thing. I hate late night talk shows and Jimmy Fallon annoys the living hell out of me. But I wish them the best of luck and hope the show does wonders for their career. If you tune in, leave a comment, let me know how they do. -MinM
