As promised, here is the official video for "D.O.A." by Jay Z. I didn't do this last night because, I wanted to do some research and give you guys a more accurate review. So let's go ahead and dive in, shall we?
The video opens with Hov pulling into an alley and entering an old abandoned looking building. He goes into a room and turns on a light and begins the track. From there, we see Jay doing a show on stage with a band and in a seperate scene having a meal. After his meal, Jay heads back to the kitchen to play some cards. One of the people he plays cards with is old school actor Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs). Next up, are scenes of Jay playing a little one on one with none other than NBA superstar, Lebron James. Those are the big action spots in the video. Some other scenes include: Jay looking out over the water, Hov getting a hair cut, and of course the exploding autotune symbols. The last one probably should be in the majors section, as it is a direct reflection of the song. And basically, that is the entire video.
I don't usually go for videos with no concept but I like this one. It reflects the theme of the song and gives the viewer a little something extra. I thought it was pretty interesting to watch, as you were not quite sure what would be seen next. I love the appearance of Harvey and the whole card playing bit, that was kind of a creative and unexpected move. I also enjoy all the explosions of the autotune symbols. That was a clever way to represent the theme. Overall, I really enjoyed this video and suggest people take a look. It's unique, fulfills it's purpose, and is very entertaining. Jay did his thing, I'm proud of him. -MinM
