Jay Z will soon be joining the growing list of rappers with books out. He just recently signed a three book deal with Random House. The first book will be called Decoded. The book is a break down of some of Jay Z's lyrics. He has chosen a selection and will comment on them, give their meanings, etc. The other two book topics have not yet been confirmed. Possibilities include a memoir and a business book of sorts. This will be Jay's second attempt of breaking into the literary world. His first was back in 2003, when he was supposed to drop his autobiography. He changed his mind as the book was about to be published due to privacy issues. There has been no word on when Decoded will hit book shelves as of yet. I will keep an eye out though, for further information.
This sounds interesting to me. I typically love books like this by artists. I find them really appealing if done the right way. Also, on a constant basis, we make our own meanings to songs. It will be cool to have an artist share their meanings with the world. I think we take music for granted alot and don't really consider what the work means to our favorite artists. Hopefully, for all the die hard Hov fans out there, he actually goes through with this one. -MinM
