Okay, I stopped messing with LL Cool J music wise a few albums ago. So not sure why I listened to this. But anyways, the production here is very odd. It has bass and then this Asian type of instrument and sound effect going on. I'm not feeling it at all. The hook is pretty wack too, as it is just a constant repetition of the track's title. And the verses are poor as well. They are just very corny lyric wise. There was no real effort or creativity put towards the verses at all. This is pretty disappointing for an LL joint. Maybe he needs to get back into some acting. Pass on this one, dig in your crates and go listen to some old school LL instead. -MinM

Drake Says Sorry + Refuses Remake Video Offer

So Drake is still catching heat for his video, "Best I Ever Had." To the point where Kanye West has offered to remake the video with him. However, the young rapper has declined Ye's offer. He did however, have this to say below.........

Okay, so I wasn't so much upset by the girls as I was the execution of the theme. He was trying to be funny and it wasn't funny at all. The video was seriously corny and all the jokes and stuff were extra wack. That's what made me mad about the video. There have been worse videos featuring females. I don't think an apology and all that is necessary. But I do appreciate it, it's a good look that he's taking his fans into consideration. Why is no one coming down on Ye though? He did direct the video, so he shares just as much responsibility to me. Oh well, he will drop another single soon and we will all move past this mess. -MinM

News: Jay Z + Eminem Are DJ Heroes

Rappers Jay Z and Eminem are both part of a new video game effort called, DJ Hero. The video game will have a special edition that features music from both rappers. Also, there will be a bundle that includes: a unique turntable controller, stand, cds, and unreleased tracks from both artists. This special edition has been dubbed, the Renegade Edition.

Ja Rule has been working on a comeback for lord knows how long now. And everyone over at The Inc, keeps saying that he's got some fire under his belt. So, since I used to be a fan, I figured what the hell, I'd give this track a listen. The production here is alright. Has some bass, a light clashing sound, and a very somber feel to it. I think it needs some different instruments than the ones used, cause they all just clash together. And maybe add a heavier bass, since this is a slower, more intense track. The hook is horrible on all levels. The chic's vocals are not that good and the lyrics are mediocre at best. She needs to work hard on pronouncing things and the lyrics need some creativity. The verses unfortunately, do not get much better. Ja just does that same old hard life tale. Which is a relateable theme with potential, but it's also one that gets done alot. So if there is no unique approach to it, it just sounds like a badly broken record. This track definitely falls into that category. Ja did not bring anything to this one, I'd say it's a wrap for the kid. Sorry Rule! I'd say skip this, it's a major fail. -MinM

Tech N9ne Wants To Get On The Radio

Tech N9ne has a message for the radio djs out there. Check it out below....


I have heard a few times before that rappers feel that this is a growing problem in radio. And while I understand every man is out for self, especially during this recession, I don't think it's quite fair. Music should be played based on quality, not on how much your being payed to spin it. However, I also believe that we as fans have a duty to get better music played on the radio too. We need to request more of the TRUE hip-hop artists and stop conforming to things just because it's trendy. And not just with radio, but television, album sales, just music period. As was discussed in an earlier post, music is reflective of it's current generation of consumers. So if we don't try to help music change it's direction, than the crap rap will stay. And TRUE hip-hop music will continue to go under appreciated. What are your thoughts on this issue? How much is the decline of REAL hip-hop tied to the industry itself and how much of it are we responsible for? Leave comments and let us know what you think! A.L.I.A.S. (Allday Life Is A Struggle) - Join The Movement

Twitter is for more than just getting into folks' business, believe it or not. Sometimes you can actually run across something note worthy. Like a new artist for example. Which is what I just experienced. So Breezy Effecters allow me to introduce you to, A.L.I.A.S. . A.L.I.A.S. is a two man group made up of cousins, Nivario "The Prince" Grice and Antoine "X.O." Hicks. The duo hail from Milwaukee, WI and have been on their grind since 1997. Their goal with their music is to create a movement of sorts that unites people via creative arts. This does not just include hip-hop but also: poetry, singing, painting, writing, etc. While The Prince is currently locked up, X.O. is still on his grind and pushing forward. So without further delay, peep some tracks below.............

2Pac F/ The Outlawz - "War Gamez"

Though the album is not scheduled for release until next year, songs from the new Tupac piece have already started leaking. This is the first track that I found worth anything. Now the production here does not exist. The whole thing is acapella, straight vocals. That is part of the track's appeal. Also, there is no hook on this one either. Usually, I don't go for tracks like that but the break in between each verse worked. Pac kicks things off and he killed the first verse. His delivery was smooth, and his lyrics were hardcore and heavy hitting as usual. The Outlawz took over for the next few verses and were just okay. Their delivery was rocky and they seemed to struggle with their rhymes a bit. They are better suited for complete production tracks, where they have time to work on things and mastering to iron out their flaws. But Pac brings it home at the end with another hot verse. And finally, there is a bunch of random non-sense going on until the track fades out. If this makes the album, I think they should cut that part, it just doesn't do anything for the track. Overall, I'd say this was an alright song. If nothing else, it's worth sitting through to hear Pac's verses. This would have been a great diss track if released during his career and completely mastered of course. RIP Pac! -MinM

Jay Z F/ Rihanna and Kanye West - "Run This Town"

This is Jay Z's official first single off of his new upcoming album, The Blueprint 3. The production here is insane. There is some bass, a piano, various sound effects, and a very intense vibe going on. The hook is hot too, Rihanna did her thing. Her vocals were on point and the lyrics were well written. "Life's a game but it's not fair. I break the rules, so I don't care. So I keep doing my own thing. Walking tall against the rain. Victory's within the mile, almost there, don't give up now. Only thing that's on my mind, is who gone run this town tonight;" deep and different right? The hook is my favorite part of the track. Don't get me wrong though, the verses are fire too. Jay Z knocks out the first two with a solid delivery, some well placed rhymes, and a confident persona. Kanye West finishes off the track with his unique delivery, clever lyrics, and his a**hole charm, lol. Overall, this track is definitely a banger and should not be slept on. Despite what the haters say, I think Hov is on his way back. So sorry for The Game! Anyways, go ahead and press play, judge the hotness for yourself. -MinM
