KRS-One & Buckshot - "Robot" (Directed by Todd Angkasuwan)
I heard good things about this track but never got around to listening to it. So I'm curious to see the video. Here we go....
This project was directed by Todd Angkasuwan. The video takes place on a digital looking black backdrop. Things open with the images of KRS-One and Buckshot being split into the form of robots. Then, it gives way to female dancers who do the actual robot dance. Towards the middle of the video, there is a whole bit about packaged rappers. Two corny looking guys jump in front of a mic and instantly become big rap stars. It's a slight for how just any body seems to be able to get into the game these days. Talent doesn't seem to be a major requirement any more. At the very end of the video, things give way to a laptop with an autotune program on it. The camera moves away and the laptop falls into a casket. The casket closes and engraved on the front of it are the words: "The Official D.O.A." In between all of the various antics, are shots of KRS and Buck doing their thing. And that more or less is the video.
I LOVED this video! It was hella creative and the symbolism in it was just brilliant. It did an excellent job of bringing the song to life. What really gets me with this video and this track is, they are both honest as hell. KRS and Buck really put the truth about today's hip-hop out there. They kept it real and raw, you got to appreciate the skills they showed. The lyrics were on point, the production is fire, this is a great example of REAL hip-hip still being alive today. Shout out to Havoc who produced the track, by the way, he handled his business. Overall, I'd say this video is a must see. The quality and artistry here is not to be slept on! We might just get rid of autotune yet folks, this just gave me hope, lol. -MinM
