Rappers Jay Z and Eminem are both part of a new video game effort called, DJ Hero. The video game will have a special edition that features music from both rappers. Also, there will be a bundle that includes: a unique turntable controller, stand, cds, and unreleased tracks from both artists. This special edition has been dubbed, the Renegade Edition.
The game hails from the makers of the infamous and insanely popular Guitar Hero. Similar to Guitar Hero, DJ Hero will allow players to step into the world of deejaying. The game will allow players to: learn scratch and mix techniques, take songs and turn them into original deejay cuts, and make their way through different sets with various difficulty levels on them. In addition to Hov and Em, Dr. Dre is slowly making his way into the project as well. For now, it's just a promotional role. As his signature headphones are on the website for the video game. Also, reports say that he is behind the game 100%. There has been no word from Hov yet, but Em is happy to be involved with this project. He thinks it will be fun and that it will give kids a good insight into the deejay world. He thinks that kids will enjoy the challenge and wishes that there was a game out like this when he was younger. The game is set to hit retailers on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.
I'm a gamer, when I can afford it, lol. However, I never got the big deal behind games like Guitar Hero. I just don't see the point to it, it looks like it would get too routine after a while. But it has proven to be an extremely profitable idea. So I think it's a good look for hip-hop to be getting in on something like this. And I think starting with Em and Hov was brilliant. They are two of the biggest names in the game and both are making comebacks as we speak. Good marketing idea, the game is more likely to sell with such star power behind it. I'm curious to see a trailer or something for this. And that bundle sounds cool, but can you imagine the price? It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in October. -MinM
