Alright, I know what your thinking. But stick with me and read the whole story before you trip. I think it's kind of interesting myself. So, Bill Cosby is planning to put together an album that brings more socially conscious lyrics and themes to the hip-hop game.
The album will be titled, Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency and will be available through Cosby's media site. Cosby's roles in the album will be executive producer and narrator. He will do no rapping, you can breathe easy now, lol. His goal is not to put hip-hop down but rather take it in a new direction. While there are few details on what topics the album will cover, Cosby didn't hesitate to reveal what he will not allow. There is absolutely no: cursing, putting down women, gun talk, violent talk, drug talk, etc. Two tracks already in the works include an ode to women and a track about absent fathers. The album themes aren't going to be the only different elements at play on this project. The sound will be a little different too, as it won't just include hip-hop. Also thrown in the mix will be the sounds of: r&b, jazz, pop, rock, and funk. There will be a concert to preview the album on October 19, 2009 in New York City at 7pm. And the album itself is scheduled for release on November 24, 2009. No further information is available about the project at this time. I'll keep an eye out for anything else though and update accordingly.
Again, I think this is really interesting. I never would have thought that Bill Cosby would do a project like this. It seems a little out of his league. I respect what he's trying to do though, positivity in any community is a good thing. The hip-hop community is no exception. However, I'd like to know a little more about his plans to execute the album. For example, what rappers are appearing on the project, how he's deciding what themes to use, how he's deciding to incorporate the different sounds, etc. It seems like he's putting a lot into this one piece and if not done right, it could just come off as too much. I'd be really curious to hear a track off of this. I might have to roll by his website and dig something up. So be on the look out for that, as well as a possible update. Thoughts? -MinM
