Controversial NBA player and side line rapper Allen Iverson is set to retire. He has been in the NBA for about 13 years, mostly with the Philadelphia 76ers. After that, he played for the Denver Nuggets for 2 years and then was traded to the Detroit Pistons.
His season with the Pistons saw him with a back injury, which as a result left him inactive for a majority of the time. The basketball star was supposed to move on to the Memphis Grizzlies this season but decided to leave the team for personal reasons. His contract was terminated after only three games. The personal reasons Iverson revealed via an online statement are his family. Iverson stated that he originally didn't plan to retire until he felt like he could no longer contribute to the sport. But he says that he still has a strong love for the game and believes that he would be an asset to any team. However, he wishes to play a bigger role in the life of his children and wife. Therefore he has made this major and shocking decision. Additionally, he thanked several of his fellow players, coaches, and his fans for all their support and inspiration throughout the course of his career. On another note, in 2000 Iverson took on the rap moniker Juelz. He had a very controversial single leak called, "40 Barz." It caused quite the stir due to it's extremely explicit lyrics and derogatory comments against homosexuals. As a result, it was never officially released as a single and his album was never completed either. But Iverson still got to work with a few big hip-hop names, including the infamous Ma$e. No further info is available at this time, should anything more come up, I'll do an update.
This saddens me a great deal. Iverson was one of my favorite players ever. Yes his looks played a role in things lol; but my guy was a beast on the court too. Also, he did his own thing, no matter what anybody thought. And as a result, he handled the consequences like a man. I just was fond of everything about him. But you can't fault Iverson for wanting be more present for his family. That's actually a very respectable look. So guess we better go snag some jerseys and hold on to the memories. We gone miss you AI! -MinM
