Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat have been hit with a lawsuit over an assault that took place back in 2007. The suit comes from the victim, Shayla Stevens, a former employee at Dupri's Atlanta nightclub, Studio 72.
Apparently, Stevens and Brat got into an altercation during a Halloween party at the club. One thing led to another and Brat struck Stevens in the face with a bottle of rum. The hit caused serious injuries including: permanent scars and nerve damage to Stevens' face. Brat would go on to ultimately plead guilty to felony aggravated assault charges in 2008. She was sentenced to three years in prison and upon her release must serve seven years of probation and complete 200 hours of community service. Besides the altercation, the suit also mentions that Brat has a history of being violent and attacking other women. This supported by the fact that Brat had another assault case against her in 2000. That one stemmed from her beating a female with a gun in the V.I.P. section of a Georgia nightclub, resulting in the victim having to get stitches. For that case, she received probation and a $1,000 fine. The suit says that Dupri is being sued due to his failure to provide Stevens with proper protection during the course of the altercation. Stevens is suing the duo for an undisclosed amount of money. No word on when the court proceedings will begin has been released yet.
Damn, I didn't know the Brat went so hard, lol. On a serious note though, this is all kind of crazy. I hope Brat learns her lesson and calms down once she is released. She has a long time on paper, so I'm sure that will help a great deal. Hopefully, Dupri won't have to give up too much money. He can't help that the girl put herself in a bad situation. And Brat is grown, if she wanted to hit the girl bad enough, I'm sure anybody interfering wouldn't have made much difference. -MinM
