Don't know what's going to be going on about midnight around here, lol. So I wanted to do this now. On behalf of The Breezy Effect, Happy New Years to all of our faithful readers! Thanks for all the love and support this year, we truly do appreciate it. Hopefully, we can continue to bring you bigger and better posts in 2010. Have a good time ringing in the new year but please be safe and responsible! Much love! -MinM
Former Wu-Tang Clan member the RZA is appearing in a new flick with veteran actor Forest Whitaker. It's a science fiction/horror number and is scheduled for release sometime in April 2010. The name of the movie is called, Repo Men. The plot of the movie is as a follows. Sometime in a future setting, a big time corporation is selling high tech organs at extremely high prices to patients who need them. However, as soon as the patients default on a payment, the company sends men out to repossess the organs. The movie is said to be a combination of darkly comedic and gruesome. Jude Law also stars in the film, as one of the big bad repo men. Peep the trailer below. No further information is available about the film at this time. Should anything come up, I'll do an update.
Chingy has been quiet for a while. Therefore this seemed like a good idea for a post. The production here is fair, nothing too exciting. There is a low bass, some light instruments, and a smooth R&B feel to it. The hook is alright, Bobby Valentino's vocals and lyrics are not as strong as they usually are. The verses are mediocre at best, Chingy leaves a lot to be desired. "Just want to let you know, I got this love thang for ya. Before I saw ya, I heard ya. And then I met ya. If I have to travel the world, girl I'm gone catch ya;" lame and corny right? The verses could definitely use some creativity, metaphors, etc. Overall, this song is pretty weak. Chingy either needs to step his game up or hang up his mic. Wouldn't bother me either way. However, please listen and form your own opinion. -MinM
Alright, so once again we had a little inconsistency last week in the series, as there was no episode posted. However, things seem to be back on track. A few weeks ago, Fredro Starr dropped episode 8 of his widely popular internet series. It was all about the beef between 50 Cent and Onyx. It was noted that there were two parts to the story. The second part is below, check it out.
This was entertaining, I found out a lot of things I never knew. Fredro Starr put on a lot of people back in the day. And I agree that the way 50 handled things was pretty wack. But oh well, it is what it is. The next episode seems to be another 2Pac story. Should be good, I'm looking forward to it. -MinM
As DMX supposedly is preparing to return to rap, fans are curious to see what he has in store. So here is another leaked track. The production here is solid. It has some bass, a clapping sound, and a very street feel to it. The hook is okay, a little too simple lyrically though. It's just a lot of repetition but it doesn't appear too often on the track, so it's bearable. The verses are decent, typical hardcore DMX rhyming. There was nothing shocking or gripping though, kind of disappointing for a DMX track. He is capable of much more impressive lyricism than what is showcased on this track. It's not bad but not X's best work either. Hopefully, he has some fire contained in his unreleased material. However, feel free to check out the cut for yourself. -MinM
This song leaked a while back, at which time, I did a full review for it. It turned out to be a nice banger and is now officially a single. The single can be found on Rakim's current album The Seventh Seal, which is in stores now. Rakim and Maino have gotten together and began working on the video for the new hood track. The video is directed by Will C and Brendan Cochrane, with production by Street Heat. Check out the behind the scenes action below.
This video looks alright, seems like your typical hood city joint. Which fits the theme of the song perfectly, but it would be nice if the fellas could come up with something to make the video pop. Some type of element to make it stand out a bit, make it original, and not so been there done that. But this was just a teaser and not the full thing. So maybe there is a little more to it. If you want to see the entire video, you don't have long to wait. It reportedly drops in full on New Year's Day (January 1, 2010). So you can peep it, while you nurse your hangover from ringing in the new year with your people, lol. -MinM
Thought it would be fitting to share a throwback Christmas video with readers. The pick is "Sleigh Ride" by TLC. It's a very urban remix to the original version done by Leroy Anderson around 1950. The song first appeared on the A LaFace Family Christmas album and has since been used on several different Christmas movie soundtracks. Check out the video to the popular holiday track below.
I love this song, it's one of my favorite Christmas tracks ever. I think it just has a fun and feel good vibe to it. Definitely puts you in the holiday spirit. And the video is cute too. Anyways, just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas on behalf of The Breezy Effect. Have a safe and fun holiday, hope Santa is good to you :)! And don't forget to cherish your: gifts, friends, family, etc. Remember it could all be taken away at any time. Much love! -MinM
T.I. was officially released from federal prison in Arkansas today. He is supposed to report to Dismas Charities Atlanta West Correctional Center tonight. He is scheduled to do about three months at the center. After his time at the center, the rapper has about 500 hours of community service to finish and about 23 days of house of arrest to do. The rapper is expected to work to some extent, during his three month stay at the halfway house. This bit of fortune comes to the rapper, as his lawyer recently released word that they were trying to get T.I. free by at least March 2010. Reports say that T.I. was allowed his freedom due to good behavior and some other undisclosed factors. So this serves as a excellent Christmas gift, I'm sure. Originally, the rapper was not supposed to be back home until May of 2010. He also had to pay a fine, do community service before going in, and helped misguided teens which was documented via MTV. And as a reminder, this all came about due to federal weapons charges that T.I. generated back in 2007. No further info is available at this time, should more details be released, I'll do an update.
I am so hyped about this news. Hate all you want, I'm glad T.I. is free. This means that he is on his way back to the game and we could definitely use him. Rappers ain't doing too much worth talking about these days. So welcome home T.I., can't wait for the new music! It's Grand Hustle baby! -MinM
In honor of the holidays, Eminem is becoming Santa/Shady Claus. Okay, actually this a charity event. The controversial rapper is showing a rare softer side of himself and getting into the holiday spirit.
Lil Flip is yet another rapper that has not been heard from in a very long while. So I was interested to see what he's working with now. The production here is okay, nothing too special. It has a light bass, some light instruments, and a very smooth and laid back vibe to it. The hook is also nothing to get excited about. The vocals are weak at best and it doesn't flow well at all. The echo and the main vocals clash bad, they seriously need to be redone. The verses need some work done too. Flip drops mediocre rhymes at best with very little creativity thrown in the mix. He needs to step his lyrical skills way up. Overall, this track is a bit of a disappointment. It needs a lot of work and Flip has had way better tracks in the past. So I'd say skip this and go listen to "Sunshine" if you want to hear a chill Flip joint. But the final word is yours, click the link. -MinM
