Feels like it's been ages since there was a mixtape review on the site. So it was a must to take advantage of this opportunity to do a new one and introduce a new artist all at one time. Goose is an up and coming cat who was born in Syracuse and relocated to Florida. It wasn't until after high school that the young rapper had the courage to go full throttle in pursuit of his career. In 2006, he was featured on the Madden 2007 soundtrack. And since then has endured a lot, to get to the point where he was ready to release his first full mixtape. It's titled Homeless In Hollywood and can be described as, “... being in a familiar place and unfamiliar place at the same time (Goose).” The review starts after the jump.
2. "No Sunshine"
The production here has a low sound and somber vibe to it. Also, there are female background vocals dispersed throughout. The production is not bad, but I'm not crazy about the vocals. They just seem to crowd the track. The verses are hot though, Goose does a great job spitting. He has some clever rhyming at work: "I'm making these n--ggas suffer. I had to finish 'em early. I made plans for supper. So f--king what I'm disgusted at what your saying. And if fame came with a price, then I don't like what your paying." That's kind of slick right? Overall, I think this track is solid. The production needs a little work but otherwise everything is fine.
4. "It's Like That"
The production here is a little more on the upbeat side. There is some bass, a few sound effects, and an energetic vibe at play. The hook here is on point, the lyrics are simple but catchy at the same time. The verses are good too, Goose once again brings his A game to his rhymes. In the end, this ranks as one of the best tracks on the mixtape.
6. "Life And Times"
The production here takes things back down a notch. There is some light instrumentation, a low bass, and a mellow vibe going on. The hook is alright, the message is definitely a quality and relateable one. However, the lyrics are a bit lack luster. There could have been a more creative approach to it, I believe. The verses are decent, the listener can definitely feel Goose's struggle with life and stuff. However, the verses seem to be missing something. Maybe some stronger metaphors, more clever word play, etc; would help things out a lot. The verses are not bad but could be tighter. Overall, this track is just fair.
8. "Agree/Disagree"
The production here is different but quality. There is some unique light sound effects, has almost an out of space thing going on. No specific vibe is given off, the beat just flows straight through. There is no hook present, just straight rhyming. Goose did a nice job here lyrically. He spit some real things, that anybody who has ever been in a relationship could connect to. "How could you sit and tell me, this is made to be. Then you turn and tell your friends, like this ain't made for me. How could you sit and tell me this is make believe. Then every time we argue, you say sh--t like you can't wait to leave," this describes every couple when they are going through that dysfunctional period, lol. Goose came with the truth on that one. Overall, this track is another high ranking one. It's definitely my favorite.
Okay, so you guys get a brief feel for the mixtape. As a whole, it has a unique sound and Goose delivers some hot rhymes. It's one that most likely anybody could find a way to vibe to.
