Jay Z, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Keri Hilson, and a few other artists have all managed to receive nominations for this year's 41st annual NAACP Image Awards. Hov leads the pack with five nominations, including: outstanding male artist and outstanding album. Alicia Keys follows suit with about three nods. And Rihanna and Mary come in next with about two nominations each. The other big news is that the movie Precious, starring Mo'nique and Mariah Carey is also up for several nominations as well. The nods include: acting categories, best movie, and best director. This makes for the second year that big time music artists dominated the awards. Last year Jennifer Hudson and Russell Simmons were the big winners. The winners will be announced during the live awards ceremony. The awards will air on Friday, February 26, 2010 around 8pm -10pm ET/PT on FOX.
I don't usually watch these awards or anything but I appreciate the nominations. It's always a good look for hip-hop to be acknowledged at a positive and prestigious event. So much props and congrats to Hov for holding it down. And I'm happy for the other nominees as well, I wish them the best of luck. Anybody plan on tuning in or watching? Just curious. -MinM
