Russell Simmons via his Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, is working with several other organizations to create a project called the Music 4 Peace Initiative and Tour. The other organizations included are: Music4Peace Foundation, Tribes of the Worlds, SwaggMedia and The Gandhi Tour. The purpose of the project is to promote a message of peace.
Simmons is looking to promote the message via: artists, music, and other global resources. Also, he is looking to extend the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network internationally. So far, a Summit is being planned for South Africa in June and for India in November. Simmons had this to say about why he decided to start this new project: “Hip-Hop music artists are leaders in the youth movement." “We’re excited about the potential these diverse organizations have in coming together to harness music as a transformative and unifying power to promote peace throughout the world (AllHipHop.Com).” In addition to the new Summits, the organizations have some current things under way as well. The major project is raising funds for the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and Haiti. The fundraiser is called Film 4 Peace and is being mainly sponsored by the Music4Peace organization. The winner will win tickets for two to South Africa, to be a part of the Summit in June. Additional information for the Music 4 Peace Initiative and Tour, can be found here.
This all sounds interesting. It's good to see someone in the hip-hop community doing something positive with their status. I hope that all of the funding and the new Summits work out well for Russell and his new partners. -MinM
