Queen Latifah and her Flavor Unit company have established a deal with VH1 for a new project. And before you flip out, no it is NOT another reality show. It's a made for TV venture. The project is a comedic drama about two best friends and their views on relationships. The piece was untitled at press time but is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia. The two female characters are African American of course and their names will be Keisha and Val. Keisha is a former video dancer and Val is an up and coming fashion mogul. Latifah and some of her Flavor Unit associates are scheduled to serve as executive producers for the TV effort. This isn't the company's first big production project either. In the past Queen and Flavor Unit have given us gems such as: Beauty Shop, The Perfect Holiday, and a couple other small time yet quality films. According to reports, VH1 is taking on this project as part of the effort to revamp their network with more creative and original content. Apparently, they finally got the hint that all of those reality shows are starting to wear thin on the viewers. No further information is available about Latifah's new venture at this time. However, I'll keep an eye on the progress and update accordingly.
I am excited to see this whenever it comes out. I LOVE Latifah and practically everything that she does. She keeps it real and represents hard in every sense of the word. And it's about time VH1 calmed down with all those damn reality shows. I like reality television and all but they over killing it at this point. Maybe if the shows had a purpose it would be okay, but they don't. They just get dumber and dumber. Also, it's good to see the network embrace something with a positive Black theme to it. The whole coonery bit was getting old too. -MinM
