Rapper Ludacris is taking a front line role in this year's Census process. Luda will take part in the government's $300 million mega advertising campaign, geared towards getting more African Americans to take part in the 2010 Census.
As part of the campaign, Luda is hitting the road on a tour to major cities with large African American populations. The name of the tour is "Luda On The Block Tour" and it features Luda explaining the importance of taking the time to accurately fill out the 10 question Census survey. So far the rapper has visited cities like Dallas and New Orleans. Future tour stops include places like New York and Luda's home city of Atlanta. Luda stated that he believes that accurately filling out the Census survey, helps to ensure that communities receive their respective portions of the federal support in the end. Also, that he is saddened by how broken down the minority communities are and that it is time for things to change. He hopes through his participation that he can: help clear up myths about the Census, get more people counted, and start getting the broken down communities cleaned up and thriving again. Luda also will be featured on radio/broadcast media ads and in a viral video campaign.
This is a great look for Luda and the Hip-Hop community. I'm very impressed that Luda is taking such an active role in the Census. For years my mother has been telling me that more African Americans need to get educated on the Census and the benefits of filling out the survey. Hopefully, Luda can accomplish his goals and this goes well. It doesn't take that long to answer 10 questions and our communities definitely need the help. -MinM
