Iggy Azalea: Hip-Hop's Next Big Female Rapper?

Ran across this video a couple of days ago while browsing online. The artist is a white female rapper named Iggy Azalea. She is 21 years old, repping Australia, and Tupac is one of her favorite rappers. With V-Nasty and her White Girl Mob being such a hot mess, white female rappers don't have the best reputation these days. But Iggy seems to be beating the odds and generating a buzz. Her claim to fame is her song/video entitled "P---y," which dropped a few months ago. Her new video is entitled "My World" and features a cameo from Tommy 'Tiny' Lister aka Deebo from the hit movie Friday. Also, the video features hair whipping so fierce that it would make Willow Smith proud and an eccentric wardrobe that would make Nicki Minaj drool. Check it out below ....

 

So I think she has a nice flow and okay rhymes. However, she is trying way too hard. It just makes her seem like a poser. I think if she toned down the tough girl image/antics and worked on being more creative and complex with her rhymes, she might be a contender in the Hip-Hop game. For now, I don't see her being anything more then an internet star. What say you? Leave your thoughts in the comments section. Nina B - "The Intro" (Directed By Scenario)

Not too familiar with Nina B, but it's been a while since a female rapper was featured on the site. Nina is a femcee repping New York. Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, the NY native took to Hip-Hop at a very early age. She began to make a name for herself via her collection of poetry and music, to the point where she started receiving record label offers at the age of 16. At age 19, she met Amber Ravenel, CEO of Ravenel Records through Russell Simmons and Bruce Willis's Art Start and Hip-Hop Project. The two hit it off and in 2003, Nina was signed to Ravenel Records, becomig the first female artist ever on their roster. She has been making a bit of a buzz ever since and is set to drop a new mixtape called, Remember me B--ch! The Bosstress is Back. This is the intro to the colorfully titled mixtape. Check it out, it was produced by Optiks and the video was directed by Scenario.

 

I loved this intro, I thought Nina killed it. Her lyrics were definitely real and reflected an all too familiar story for a lot of people. Her flow was on point as well, you could hear the emotion as she shared her struggle. And Scenario did a great job directing as well. The black and white lighting with the red special effects was dope. It created a dramatic feel, that went perfectly with the track. Definitely has me interested in the mixtape. Atlantic Records Presents: The Game Changers - Part 1 (Estelle, Janelle Monae, Lupe Fiasco, & B.o.B)

"A game changer is somebody who pushes the envelope and does something outside of the ordinary." -B.o.B / In honor of Black History Month, Atlantic Records has released a series called Game Changers. Game Changers is a series of group interviews with young promising artists. The artists that are featured have all made their mark on the industry by being true to themselves and making unique/quality contributions to the game. The first part of the series features: Estelle, Janelle Monae, B.o.B, and Lupe Fiasco. Check it out below, as Danyel Smith gets their thoughts on everything from performing to conforming vs. being an individual.

I loved this interview/discussion. Everyone was so well spoken and made some really good points. Also, there was a lot of interesting information revealed about each of the artists. I was shocked to see that Lupe is so down to earth. I pictured him as more of the quiet and hostile type, lol. So far Miss Smith is doing her thing with this project. I can't wait to see part two. Tah Phrum Duh Bush - "Randomatic Idiosyncratic" (Part 1)

Tah Phrum Duh Bush is an emcee from Flatbush, NY. He made his debut back in 2005 with an album entitled, Sunshine or Pure Shade. And he has been doing his thing ever since. Most Hip-Hop fans seem to love him and others not so much. But he's not your typical emcee, so maybe the non-fans just don't get it. Let's take a look at the video for his single "Randomatic Idiosyncratic" (Part 1), to get a better feel for the Flatbush native.

 

Poet Jasmine Mans Vs. Nicki Minaj

Saw this while glancing through one of those infamous gossip blogs and had to share. Recently, the University of Wisconsin (Madison, Wisconsin), had a "Stomp Da Madness" competition. This year's stand out performer was a poet by the name of Jasmine Mans. She apparently has been making quite the name for herself with her poetry: opening up for various artists, putting on major performances, winning competitions, etc. She is a sophomore at the university and hails from New Jersey. The poem she performed at the competition was an original entitled "Nicki Minaj." Yup, she went at the queen barbie herself. And she went pretty hard too, check out the footage that has everybody talking below.

 

R.I.P Tupac: 6/16/1971 - 9/13/1996

Today is definitely clouded by all of the MTV Video Music Awards aftermath. However, it is also a significant day in the Hip-Hop culture. 14 years ago this day, the game lost arguably one of the best rappers to ever do it, Tupac Amaru Shakur. Couldn't let him be forgotten, so wanted to do something real quick to honor his name. Below is a clip from the beginning of one of his numerous documentaries, Tupac Shakur - Thug Angel (The Life Of An Outlaw). The documentary chronicles his life and career from the very beginning to the tragic end in Las Vegas. There is a lot of interesting information and insight given about Pac by those who knew him well. And there is also a lot of footage of Pac himself speaking and breaking things down from his perspective. This was definitely interesting to watch and a must see for any Tupac fan out there. I chose this clip because since this is the day we remember how Pac's life/career ended, it seemed only fitting to see how it began. Also, I love the Pac interview parts in this clip. It shows a very young, calm, and mature Tupac. He isn't dressed like a thug, he isn't being all aggressive, he isn't offensive, nor any of the other negative things that he became known for in his interviews. He is dressed in shaggy clothing, he speaks very intelligently, and he touches on some pretty heavy topics for his age at the time. In fact, he is very appealing, could listen to him speak all day. Or maybe I'm just being biased, lol. Anyways, Rest In Peace Pac, you are truly missed! -MinM

"Hustles With Russells" - Episode 2

So Russell Simmons and Affion Crockett are smashing the web with their new hit series, "Hustles With Russells." This week the Russells sit down and discuss some personal habits, the reason for the cloning, and more. Check them out below....

This again was just alright to me. I didn't find it as funny as Affion's stuff usually is. I felt the same way about the last episode. So therefore, this will be my last post on the series. I mean don't get me wrong, Affion does a great Russell impression from the voice to the mannerisms. I just can't get into this like everybody else is. "Hustles With Russells" - Episode 1

Just recently, I did a post about Russell Simmons and Affion Crockett teaming up for a new web series. The series is called, "Hustles With Russells" and it will run for about eight weeks. Check out the first episode of the new comedy series below....

This was giggle worthy but not the typical laugh out loud funny that Affion usually delivers. I was kind of disappointed actually. There were some good points made here and there, but the comedic element needs some work. Hopefully, the future episodes get better. What do ya'll think? Meet Russell Simmons And His Clone

It's been a while since there was any comical postings on the site. And this also relates to the previous post on Russell Simmons breaking back into the world of comedy. This venture is something a little smaller than television though. It is an eight week web series that will supposedly air every Wednesday. The series will feature Simmons and his adventures with his clone. His clone is being played by comedian Affion Crockett and the series has been cleverly dubbed, "Hustles With Russells" Check out the trailer below....

This looks pretty entertaining and I love Affion's brand of comedy too. I'm looking forward to checking out an episode or two. Anybody else interested? I'm considering posting the first one and seeing how the feedback turns out. -MinM

Fredro Starr's Tales Of The Industry: Episode 12 - Season Finale

This week's episode of Fredro Starr's Tales Of The Industry is a special one. The reason is because, it's the season finale. That's right this is the last episode of the hit internet series for the time being. Fredro Starr takes the series out on a major note, as he talks about his relationship with Biggie. They weren't best friends or nothing, but they spent a significant amount of time hanging out prior to the legendary rapper's death. They partied together at a special event, held a private listening session for a major album in hip-hop history, and did a few extracurricular activities as well. Get all the juicy details below.
